Discussion... 
the cold front is making rapid progress early this morning and is 
expected to reach the coast before sunrise. Tight pressure 
gradients in the wake of the front will result in breezy 
conditions today...with sustained north/northeast winds of 20 to 
25 miles per hour and gusts of 35 miles per hour this morning. Upper moisture streaming 
in from the northwest will keep some cirrus coverage mainly across 
The Hill Country and adjacent areas today...otherwise mostly sunny 
to sunny skies are expected. The sunshine will help combat the 
cold air advection to yield high temperatures mostly in the upper 
50s to low 60s (a bit cooler across the hill country)...which is 
about 5 or so degrees cooler than late January averages. Temperatures 
will fall to at or near freezing Sunday morning...with a hard 
freeze expected for The Hill Country and valley drainage areas. 


Moisture will make a rapid comeback late in the weekend...with 
cloudy skies returning by Sunday night. The low level moisture 
eroding the shallow cold surface layer could result in patchy morning 
fog and sprinkles Monday morning. Both high and low temperatures 
will undergo a warming trend in response to the increasing 
moisture...with Spring-like conditions expected for the middle of 
the week. 


Chances for rain continue to slowly increase for the Wednesday/thrs 
time frame ahead of the next frontal system. For now have gone with 
20-30 probability of precipitation mainly along and southeast of the I-35 corridor where 
moisture will be deepest. Models continue to suggest the weak 
front will slide into the area on Thursday...with a dry and mild 
weekend in store in the wake of the front.

Fire weather... 
tightening surface pressure gradients in the wake of the cold front 
overnight will result in northerly 20-feet winds of 15 to 20 miles per hour. 
However...much lower temperatures will generally keep relative humidity values in 
the upper 20s to middle 30s. Elevated fire weather conditions are 
expected for a few hours during the afternoon and early evening 
before winds decrease to near 10 miles per hour shortly after sunset. Another 
dry front expected late next week may result in elevated fire 
weather conditions Thursday and Friday afternoons.
